What I was formed to do

I attended a two-year professional training programme (M1 and M2) that meets the current needs of the job market in the publishing and communications field. The main aim of the course is to prepare students for the job of polyvalent publishing assistant, both for traditional publishing houses and for multimedia companies.

DTP

The introduction to DTP (Desktop Publishing) was an essential learning process to familiarise myself with the basic concepts, tools, and techniques needed to create printed or digital documents professionally, using specialised software.

  • Vinyl sleeve on Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Press release on InDesign
  • Logos, covers, and inside pages on Adobe software programs

Literature

A wide range of courses, from children's literature to foreign and contemporary literature, as well as courses dedicated to current publishing releases, have enriched my general knowledge and equipped me with the skills needed to analyse a wide variety of literary works.

  • Presentations of imaginary collections
  • Editorial monitoring file
  • Essay on Young Adult Literature

Redaction

These courses taught me professional writing techniques for journalism and publishing: portraits of authors, book reviews, newsletters, writing and correction of articles, literary synthesis, back covers, catalogue notices, bookseller's coup de cœur, sales pitches and press release.

  • Writing of multiple exercises
  • DTP page layout

Publishing

Numerous speakers provided us with a basic understanding of the professions involved in book production, publishing, distribution, and promotion. This includes topics such as publishing, graphic design, editorial management, bookstores, literary promotion, etc. These courses often allowed me to work in a team.

  • Analysis of the editorial aspect of an album
  • Creation of a fictitious publishing house

Correction

Manuscript correction in publishing is the process of carefully revising a written text to correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, typography, and coherence. I was taught to correct manuscripts using typographical correction marks.

  • Personal correction of manuscripts
  • Collaborative text corrections

Web

Web and multimedia edition refers to the creation, management, and publication of digital, interactive, and multimedia content on the Internet and other digital platforms. I have acquired technical knowledge of the main formats related to online publishing.

  • Finalised HTML CV page
  • Publishing Day website with the class

Law and management

The course on literary and artistic property offered me a detailed introduction to copyright in France, covering both economic and moral rights. In addition, a short course on discovering business management enabled me to work as part of a team.

  • Setting up a fictional publishing house

English language

These English courses have broadened my perspective on the publishing world, covering both written and spoken English, as well as including specific vocabulary, workshops on book promotion tools, and a cross-cultural approach to publishing.

  • Panel discussion on the subject of dystopia

Project management

Publishing Day is a scientific, educational, and cultural event organised every year by students of the Master 2 Publishing programme at the University of Angers. In 2024, we chose the theme "Publishing Heritage Tourism", and I was part of the creative committee.

  • Creation of logos, posters, programmes...
  • Website creation and maintenance

Internship report

In M1, we were required to complete an internship of at least 280 hours, leading to the writing of an internship report and a theoretical reflection. In M2, we have to complete an internship of at least 420 hours, which also involves writing and defending a report and a dissertation.

  • Internship report in a library and bookshop / dissertation on dystopia.
  • Internship report in a publishing house / thesis on the future of paper books in the digital age.

Editorial projects

My first personal project

In 2025, I dedicated several months to meticulously editing my grandfather’s autobiographical novel. The goal was not publication but to produce a dozen copies exclusively for our family. I completely reworked and corrected all 691 pages of the manuscript, a task made particularly challenging by the numerous passages written in a local dialect. I carried out this work alone, right up to the final layout in InDesign, with rigour and patience. I am very proud of the result and grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to a work so precious to my family.
